Implementing Manufacturing and Materials Management: From Empty Plant to Costed Work Order · Module 4 · Inventory Organizations and Plants

Creating an inventory organization

Lesson 36 of 188 · 13 min

Create Plant A with its name, code, location, business unit and legal entity. Point its item master at the organization you just created. Set the schedule and calendar, then verify the profit center business unit populated — and if it is blank, go back to the enterprise prerequisites module's flag. Create Plant B and the warehouse organization, then review the resulting list. Check the profit center business unit field on every organization as you create it. Blank means the earlier module was not finished, and catching it here saves the costing-module confusion — the same defect two modules away from its cause. The organization code appears in transactions, reports and integrations forever. Short, meaningful, consistent. The item master pointer is set at creation. Confirm it before saving.
